The local church is the hope of the world.
There is nothing like the local church when it’s working right.
Its beauty is indescribable.
Its power is breathtaking.
Its potential is unlimited.
It comforts the grieving and heals the broken in the context of community.
It builds bridges to seekers and offers truth to the confused.
It provides resources for those in need and opens its arms to the forgotten, the downtrodden, the disillusioned.
It breaks the chains of addictions, frees the oppressed, and offers belonging to the marginalized of this world.
Whatever the capacity for human suffering, the church has a greater capacity for healing and wholeness.
Still to this day, the potential of the local church is almost more than I can grasp. No other organization on earth is like the church.
Nothing even comes close.”
I came across this quote the other day, a quote I had really liked and had forgotten about, it was written by Bill Hybels who leads willow creek Church in America, which has reached many people with the good news of Christ, I wondered if we could use this as a spring board for our prayers.
Thank God for the local Church…
Thank God for the bits of it that are working right…
Pray that God reminds us afresh of its beauty, and of his power within his Church and its limitless potential to change lives and communities.
Pray that as Church we will comfort the grieving.
Pray that we will heal the broken in the context of community, pray that we really do take the time to love people, ‘by this all people will know that you are my disciples that you love one another’, pray too for our Churches that we will really be family, real community, grow together in love, especially pray for miracles where relationships are fractured or broken.
Bonheoffer talked about Church needing to understand fellowship afresh when he realised that meeting with other Christians could cost him his life, he realised that he had to invest more into his community of brothers and sisters in Christ. So pray we see healing and we as a body of Christ together in Kingswood go deeper together in community and fellowship.
Pray that as Church we will offer bridges to seekers, and truth to the confused (pray too for good biblical teaching to be preached in all our local churches).
Pray too for us as Churches, that we will genuinely offer not just resources to those in need but be compassionate and loving willingly opening our arms to the forgotten, down-trodden and disillusioned.
Pray too that we see addictions broken (both our own addictions and those around us).
Pray that we become good advocates that sees the oppressed freed and pray that we offer belonging to the marginalised and disenfranchised.
Thank God that whatever the capacity for human suffering that the Church has a greater capacity for healing and wholeness.
Praise God that no other organisation on earth is like the Church.
Pray that we see God’s refining fire fall on our Churches, as God beautifies his bride, refines the Gold.
